Famous Faces of Missouri’
Tour Will Bring Travel Writers Here Saturday
A group of travel writers will visit Chillicothe this Saturday as part of Travel Media Showcase, a national convention being held in Kansas City this year. A contingent of writers have signed up for a post-conference press trip sponsored by the Missouri Division of Tourism.
In addition to stopping in Chillicothe, the press trip, themed “Famous Faces of Missouri,” will include stops in Independence, St. Joseph and Hannibal.
While touring this area Saturday and Sunday the group will be hosted by the Greater Chillicothe Visitors Region and will be escorted by director Amy Supple. They will tour the Penney Home in Hamilton, the murals of Chillicothe, the Pershing Museum in Laclede and the Disney sites in Marceline. The group will also make a special appearance at the Home of Sliced Bread – Bread Baking Contest on Saturday at Chautauqua and get a guided tour of the murals by mural artist Kelly Poling.
Spotlight on Chillicothe; Missouri Showcase
The state of Missouri is putting the spotlight on Chillicothe on today (Thursday) as it brings its Missouri Showcase Familiarization Tour through our area. This group of travel planners come from all over the country to see group-friendly tourist attractions in Missouri. They will use the information they gather on this trip to plan future motorcoach trips for their clients. The Greater Chillicothe Visitors Region is hosting the group at a special ‘Spotlight on Chillicothe’ event at Grand River Inn.
“We want to maximize their time in Chillicothe so we put together an amazing event that will allow us to showcase everything that is great about our area,” said Director Amy Supple.
The lunch portion of the day was to be a Taste of Chillicothe and was made possible by of several local restaurants. “I have been overwhelmed with the support of our tourism partners for this event, especially the restaurants,’ Supple said. “Without their help this would not be possible.”
“We are very fortunate to earn our spot on the tour; they certainly can’t go everywhere in the few days they have. It’s a great sign that word is spreading that we have a great tourism product in Chillicothe,” Supple said.
